1600, 31st Dec: The Company is founded and receives the royal charter from Queen Elizabeth I. It was to be the The Governor and Company of Merchants of London Trading into the East Indies. Akbar is the emperor in India.
1611: The Company sets up its first factory (trading post) at Masulipatnam in present day Andhra Pradesh.
1613: A factory at Surat is set up. Permission is received from the then emperor, Jahangir.
